Angela Chan HeadshotThe Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council is a membership-driven organization led by our leadership team. Our Board of Directors are leaders in the state’s advanced energy economy and provide invaluable guidance for the organization. Today, we’re highlighting TAEBC Board Member Angela Chan, Microgrid Sales Engagement Leader at Schneider Electric. Learn more about Schneider Electric here.

Why (and how) did you get involved in the advanced energy space?

Advanced energy is a rapidly growing market, and the need for innovation to help combat climate change is here. I got into the industry by networking, being curious and wanting to contribute to a sustainable future.

What motivated you to join the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council board?

I moved from Australia to Nashville in 2021. In Australia, I was part of my local communities to establish innovative practices and endorse the use of digitization and decentralization for a decarbonized world. Since moving to Nashville, I’ve had this top of mind, so I wanted to join an organization which helped with policy, innovation and economic development while using my experience at Schneider Electric.

What Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council accomplishments are you most proud of during your tenure on the board?

So far, I hosted our Annual Meeting, where I was able to give a tour of the Schneider Electric offices to the Board and welcome 100s of people to our facility. We really drink our own champagne – from our kitchen facilities, to our control center and screens – we take sustainability very seriously in every aspect! We also announced a $140 million investment to U.S. manufacturing operations, $85 million will be towards a building in Mount Juliet and Smyrna.  Both locations will manufacture custom electrical switchgear and medium voltage power distribution products to bolster support for critical infrastructure, industries, and the escalating demand for data center solutions across the U.S..

What advice do you have for individuals or businesses in the advanced energy field?

Invest in a sustainable planet. In today and tomorrow’s world, we need to be supporting the world’s natural resources. In the New Energy Landscape, we need to be prosumers (proactive consumers) to design what the future grid looks like. We need to be creative, collaborate and courageous in the work that we do!

What’s next for advanced energy in Tennessee?

We know that in Tennessee, there is room to do more! I’m excited to challenge the norm and form closer relationships with the ecosystem to champion a more resilient and sustainable future.
